For a very long time, possibly decades, there has been a plan to develop an inland port somewhere in the CNY area to suckle of the massive growth at true water based ports along the eastern coast line. There have been many false starts and many grand plans but it seems that some version of the project has finally taken root. At the CSX itermodal yard in Dewitt a new yard is well underway that includes to very tall gantry cranes. If you passed through the area now you would see them nearly completed but here is a shot of the two in their more early days.
