Behind the Scenes

Some behind the scenes action from this past weekends Brockway show.  Seems a little ironic for Brockways to be hauled by Macks but they are nice trucks none the less.

Caterpillar Visitors Center

Looking for that next vaction hot spot?  Take out your maps and circle Peoria, Illinois, more specifically, the brand new Caterpillar Visitors Center. Scheduled to open October 20, the 50,000 square-foot center will house various Cat equipment through the ages to help tell the story of the company from it’s humble begingins to the global equipment powerhouse it is today.  The vistor center will house a giant replica CAT 797 mining truck that not only serves as an interactive display but a 70 person movie theater.  LOL Wut?!

Here is quick video tour of the unfished building and exhibts that will included a D8 simulator and classic restored equipment. Sounds like a blast to me.

Camel Bus

Marc passed this photo on to me the other day.  It’s an 1954 International KB7 semi-trailer coach.  This setup screams vintage, something from a past time in public transportation.  I’m sure many drivers of modern buses would like to be separated from their passenger from time to time.  I know my former school bus drivers wanted that ability.

But then I began to think, where have I seen this setup before?  Then it hit me, Cuba.  Yes, the camel bus is a very popular mode of transport for our communist friends.

I guess it beats walking!

100 Years of Brockway Trucks

1912-2012, 100 years of Brockway Trucks. The factory may be long closed, having birthed the final run of trucks over three decades ago but yet the memory still remains.  The seeking eye can still find Huskies running the roads of the Northeast.  For the past 13 years the devoted have gathered in Cortland, NY to celebrate what was and still is the toughest name in trucks, Brockway. To commemorate the day I am reaching far back into my archive of trucks to bring you this 761 model that was owned by the Town of Lenox, NY. I don’t know what happened to this truck, it disappeared shortly after I shot this photo. I know the International Fleetstar that was the 761’s stablemate wound up down the road at a local potato farm but the Brockway essentially disappeared.

ESATA 2012 – The Tractors

Part two of our ESATA 2012 coverage deals with the tractors, specifically, antique tractors. Now don’t let the word antique fool you, these tractors still run and did their fair share of sled pulling on the track. Olivers, Farmalls, Deere, Allis Chalmers, they were all here.

I thought this factory floor fresh Allis Chalmers D21 was really sharp.  Plus it had a turbo charged diesel so what more could you ask for?

*VIDEO TO COME*
