Woodsmen Field Days 2012 – Part 1

This is the second year Dan has submitted amazing shots of the Woodsmen’s Field Days and this is the second year I find myself wondering why I have waited so long to attend this event.

Actually, I have been to the field days before but only by mistake. I was heading somewhere in the Adirondacks with my parents a few years back when we happened to blunder through the festival. I guess we should have stopped! Check back in a couple of days for part two. You won’t be disappointed.

Ready To Serve

I paid a visit to the NYS Fair yesterday and stumbled across this heavly armoured National Guard backhoe. I know the make but do you? If you know the answer let me know by leaving a comment below and you could win a special prize!

The Crossroads of New York State

I was coming home from the National Brockway show two weeks ago when I passed through the scenic town of LaFayette, NY. If you are familiar with the area you know that the hills surrounding the town provide for near perfect apple growing conditions. Each October there is a massive apple festival, the town’s claim to fame. But LaFayette has another ace up its sleeve, it happens to sit at the geographic heart of New York State. The town straddles the U.S. Routes of 11 and 20. Route 11 runs North/South from Canada all the way to Louisiana while US 20 is the longest road in the United States, stretching coast to coast for some 3,365 miles.

Despite living 15 miles outside of LaFayette and traveling both 11 and 20 numerous times I never stopped to think about how far the roads really reached.  It’s interesting to think that the humble ribbon of road through your home town can connect you to people and places hundreds of miles away.

ATHS Twin Tiers 2012

Yesterday the Twin Tiers chapter of the ATHS held their annual truck show at the Broome County Fairgrounds. A really nice collection of trucks, tractors and heavy equipment was on hand for all to enjoy.  Because of the geographic closeness to Cortland, NY there is always a nice collection of Brockways on hand.

I enjoyed the collection of old heavy equpiment that ranged from bulldozers to “steam” shovels.  It would have been even better to see these machines in action.

Check back later for some slow truck racing action!

Auction Leftovers

Yesterday was another auction at the Alex Lyon facility in Canastota, NY.  Some old lots from the July auction were mixed among the new offerings of trucks, loaders and dozers. Check out this ’03 Peterbilt 379, it was a very popular truck, never wanting for someone to jump in the cab and rev the hell out of the engine. Of course I did no such thing 🙂

And here is our old friend, the Trojan 5500 turbo charged beast loader. After watching my original video I was a little disappointed. After all, I didn’t even raise the bucket up! So here is remix video with some brand new footage spliced in!

I have some other stuff to post as the week goes on. You know, boring videos of Mack Superliners, Terex rock trucks with flat tires, Cat 972 loaders.

On the Job – Peterbilt 379

I’ve never had a burger from In-N-Out before but Ryan, the submitor of these photos, vouches for their excellence.

Ryan tells us the In-N-Out fleet is the cleanest on the highways of California and based on the photos I don’t know how you could disagree.  It looks great.  God save the private fleets!

Know of a private fleet that runs a good looking rig?  Email Me!

The Patriot Fleet

Crete Carriers is serious about paying respect to current and past members of the United States Armed Services. Not content to just provide lip service to the ideas behind the simple yet complex idea of patriotism, Crete Carriers assembled a special group of trucks and drivers and dubbed them the Patriot Fleet. The fleet is composed of five specially wrapped International Prostars each piloted by a Crete driver that is a former member of the U.S. military. Check out the video below to learn more about the trucks and their special drivers.

Mobile Mack Screen Plant

It’s been awhile since I’ve featured a Suit-Kote truck on Daily Diesel Dose so here is an interesting Mack that appears to have a screening plant built on the back. I’m not sure if this truck works in tandem with other pieces of equipment but that is my guess.  The setup is very similar to the one found on this old Brockway.
