CSX Crane – CR 94037

Take a look at this impressive American crane belonging to rail giant CSX. I’m not sure how old this crane is but it really has a vintage look to it. The Conrail Cyclopedia has shots of it dating back to 1999 but I’m sure it has been around much longer than 14 years. To me it looks like this American just rolled out of a HO display. All the logos and colors appear to be freshly painted right down to the New York Central System badge. For those wondering this crane is capable of traveling under its own power.

When I stopped by to photograph this classic piece of equipment the wind was blowing the cables around and the rain was failing hard. Keeping to my mantra of “equipment waits for no man” I braved the weather and grabbed a few shots. They came out pretty well considering the tantrum mother nature was throwing. The next day the crane was gone.

Below is a video of a similar crane in NJ on the move.

A few more shot for your enjoyment. The first photo provides a glimpse into the cab with its impressive collection of levers and handles.

Western Star – Oswego County Style

This truck has been kicking around Tracey’s back lot for a few weeks now. I first spotted it with Dan back in March before it the dump trailer came into play. Now it seems the truck is ready for pickup. Most likely I’ll cross paths with this Western Star again during the summer months as it runs material from the quarry in Jamesville up 481 to Oswego County.

Oshkosh M-ATV

I happened across this Oshkosh M-ATV the other day at a local truck stop. From what I can tell the mirrors on the hood make this the “base upgrade” model. I’m sure as a type the black CIA stealth helicopters are closing in on my location….

General Sand and Stone Corp – Autocar DC10364S-OH

Tires, this truck has them. Owned by General Sand and Stone of Pittsfield MA this rig was spec’d heavy but that is par for the course when talking Autocars. The paint job on this truck must have been something to behold. Check out the driver’s side fender. It is so clear that it reflects the Autocar emblem from the hood!

Lost and Found – The Brockway Truck Duo!

A few weeks ago I received a great email from long time DDD fan Spencer. For some reason it was lost in the shuffle. I’m not sure why as it contains a great story about some classic trucks. You may recall that Spencer is attempting to restore his grandfather’s International RD-220. You can read more about it by clicking here. As fate would have it more of his grandfather’s fleet was just found during a back roads cruise.

Until this accidental discovery no one knew what had happened to these two Brockways. The only thing known for sure was that the both trucks were not sold as a pair. Somehow over the years the two Huskies found each other and have been resting in the same field ever since.

Not shown in the photos is something that will interest the hardcore Brockway fans. According to Spencer one of the trucks is wearing two Husky ornaments on the hood. Possible Husky Drive? More details are to follow!

Thank you for the great photos Spencer!

Dump Truck Week – Brockway

This past week I’ve featured nothing but dump trucks on Daily Diesel Dose. The first two days were unintentional and then it became the unofficial week of dump trucks. My plan was to end with the GMC General from the other day but then Andy stepped in with another survivor; a Brockway 361 (just a guess) he found outside of Lyons Falls.

How about those steaks? What does this truck haul!?

I’ve seen a few Brockways with square lights in the fenders and always assumed they were some sort of aftermarket solution to rusted fenders. Anyone know better?

If you are having trouble seeing this truck as it would have looked back in its prime check out the video below.

Thanks for photos Andy!

Dump Truck Week – GMC General

Now this is a nice survivor GMC General. I first spotted this truck a few days ago shortly before the sun set. A that time I was able to grab a few shots but the photos came out a little dark and blurry for my taste. Thankfully the truck did not move for the next two days and I was able to return and grab a few pictures. It was raining this time but I wasn’t got to try my luck with a third visit!

The fenders and cab look really good on this truck. There is minimal rust and the grill is near perfect! The fiberglass hood and aluminum cab have held up well. For what appears to be a site truck this General is still in superior shape. Even the hood ornament has survived.

Some may ask if the General and the Astro shared the same cab. The answer is no. However they did share the same style doors and windshield style.

Western Star Dump Truck

Today dump truck week continues with a really sharp looking Western Star. I am unsure of the age or model but I’m guessing early 90’s? Maybe something from the 49XXX line of trucks? Western Stars are similar to Autocars in the fact they found a style that worked and ran with it for a number of years. The logo near the cab reads 400 Big Cam which probably means a Cummins is under the hood.

Big thanks to Ryan for sharing this great truck with us!

Dump Truck Week – The Clarence Autocar

Another truck joins the Clarence Ritchie fleet. However this time it’s an Autocar not a Brockway!

This happens to be the ever popular DC model with a Cummins powerplant. As of right now I am unsure of the year and other relevant facts. Stay tuned….

It’s green. It’s an Autocar. It has construction style fenders. What more can you need? I give this truck the Daily Diesel Dose seal of approval!

Dump truck week continues tomorrow with a classic Western Star!

*UPDATE*

Clarence writes…

The Autocar is a 1973, DC9964 with a PT270 with a jake. The transmission is a TO955ALL riding on SUDD rears on Hendrickson rubber block suspention. 11:00/24’s all the way around with only 83,000 on it. When new it was owned by the Town of Adams MA. treatment plant and I bought it from a local slate company saving it from the blue wrench!
