Military 5-Ton Truck with Crane

I usually get frustrated by stop lights but once in a great while you want one to flash red. This was one of those times. What more needs to be said about this beast other than it’s awesome?

A Real Food Truck

Food trucks have been all the rage for some time now but can you really say you have a food truck if you are using anything less than this Ford 9000 rescue truck?

Toss N Fire is rocking this old truck as a mobile pizza kitchen. If you haven’t had a wood fire pizza yet please stop whatever you are doing and go find one. It’s that good.

Autocar Mondays – An ACL by Any Other Name

Yesterday we took a look at a Duplex truck that clearly was an International R-190 in everything but name. Today we have a similar truck in the form of this 1988 WhiteGMC. We all know by this point in time the White and GMC heavy truck brands were under the umbrella of Volvo. This also included the Autocar nameplate.

When John sent me this photo as a candidate for Autocar Mondays I thought it was fairly obvious suggestion until I actually read the details of his email and looked closely at the truck. You’ll notice it has no Autocar badging despite clearly being an ACL model.

As you can see this 1988 model is still going strong and is in amazing shape. Around this time you could still buy a new Autocar DK so I’m guessing when that line was eventually retired, along with the WhiteGMC moniker, this truck became the default heavy duty Autocar truck.

Nice catch John. Thanks for the share!

An Duplex by Any Other Name

Is than an R-Series International? At first glance that answer would be yes.

But wait. What is this on the other side of the hood? A Duplex emblem!

Now we know that International offered the Comfovision cab to a host of manufacturers over the years including Diamond-T, FWD, and others. But rarely was the sheet metal of an entire truck copied from front to back as it was this model of Duplex. And if that wasn’t enough the Duplex trucks also were referred to as R and L models. This particular truck even uses the International RD501 gas engine. The door tag indicates it’s a K-501 model.

At some point you have to ask the question what makes a Duplex and Duplex. If you have any particular information to share on this model of truck please share with a comment down below.

The Good Stuff

Waaaay back in the very early spring of 2019 Riccelli Enterprises had an auction to help clean out some of their older rigs, many of which came from their buyout of Northern a few years prior. This auction had some real neat old iron. The kinds of trucks that are quickly disappearing from the road if they not already gone. Just look at this line up.

It’s like an antique truck show!

As expected most of the older iron went for 2 or 3k max. Some of the later model trucks (not pictured) brought in very high prices. Is it normal to pay nearly 20,000 for a dump truck with almost a million miles? They were well used. I’m sure prices haven’t improved any nowadays.

ATHS Harrisonburg – Heavy Breathing

Please don’t worry about me when you watch this video. Yes, it sounds like I’m a 90 year old chain smoker who just ran up a flight of stairs at times but I assure you my lung capacity is just fine. I can walk on level ground without becoming winded. The microphone on my camera happens to be on the top and hold it close to my face during events with plenty of background noise. Anyway, that’s enough behind the scenes information. Enjoy the walkthrough!

Autocar Mondays – Syracuse Sand and Gravel

Well here is a nice old rig. I happened to be in the neighborhood of the Riccelli Northern operations in Fulton a few days back when I spotted this guy lingering out back. I’m not sure on the age or exact model but it is rocking the white steering wheel so it’s old enough to be cool.

S-Series Madness

Part of the fun of having your own website doesn’t come from the constant need to update plugins, apply patches, fix things broken by patches and updates. No, it comes from being able to do what ever you want. For instance, this entire post of nothing but S-Series and S-Series derived trucks.

Like this tanker presumably still employed by the U.S. Government.

Just as good looking in dump truck form.

Or how about this International LoPro? Who would post this on a website not dedicated to selling it! It’s such an overlooked truck that I didn’t even bother watermarking it. It’s never gonna get pinched and uploaded to one of those crazy trucking groups. I still like it though.

Alright, coming back down to reality, the tried and true 4900. It’s been decades since they have rolled out the factory and you still don’t have to look hard to find them. Even up here in the Northeast where rust instantly destroyed the door sills and rocker panels. This one however has escaped unscathed.

A single stack International with a window in the back.

At the Dealer – Western Star 49X

The Western Star 49X is one the newest trucks out there and Tracey Road Equipment isn’t wasting anytime getting them into the hands of their new owners. Here we see a dump configuration for Ruston Paving in their trademark baby blue color. The dump body was manufactured by J&J. I bring this up because as you may have noticed the rather large gap between the cab and dump. No one is quite sure the exact reason (well, someone is) as to the reason for this space. On the J&J Facebook page this truck was featured and the question was asked. The official response was “we don’t really know but it probably has something to do with weight laws”. Good enough for me.

And here is one setup as a tractor.

And another with a stone slinger out back.

And finally, another dump truck.
