Well here is a nice old rig. I happened to be in the neighborhood of the Riccelli Northern operations in Fulton a few days back when I spotted this guy lingering out back. I’m not sure on the age or exact model but it is rocking the white steering wheel so it’s old enough to be cool.
Part of the fun of having your own website doesn’t come from the constant need to update plugins, apply patches, fix things broken by patches and updates. No, it comes from being able to do what ever you want. For instance, this entire post of nothing but S-Series and S-Series derived trucks.
Like this tanker presumably still employed by the U.S. Government.

Or how about this International LoPro? Who would post this on a website not dedicated to selling it! It’s such an overlooked truck that I didn’t even bother watermarking it. It’s never gonna get pinched and uploaded to one of those crazy trucking groups. I still like it though.
Alright, coming back down to reality, the tried and true 4900. It’s been decades since they have rolled out the factory and you still don’t have to look hard to find them. Even up here in the Northeast where rust instantly destroyed the door sills and rocker panels. This one however has escaped unscathed.

The Western Star 49X is one the newest trucks out there and Tracey Road Equipment isn’t wasting anytime getting them into the hands of their new owners. Here we see a dump configuration for Ruston Paving in their trademark baby blue color. The dump body was manufactured by J&J. I bring this up because as you may have noticed the rather large gap between the cab and dump. No one is quite sure the exact reason (well, someone is) as to the reason for this space. On the J&J Facebook page this truck was featured and the question was asked. The official response was “we don’t really know but it probably has something to do with weight laws”. Good enough for me.

Over the years I’ve fallen out of the habit of carry my camera around with me at all times. That’s too bad because these trucks could have benefited from some extra focal power. My cell phone did fairly well all things considered.
First up is this old Ford bucket truck sitting at a semi abandoned factory/power plant between Fulton and Oswego. This truck is one of those models that used to be everywhere until it wasn’t.
The Ford’s resting mate is the Hough 90 Payloader. Like all equipment left in the weeds the door has been left open to make it easier on the critters and weather to wreak their havoc.
And finally, the truck that I really wish I had the zoom for, this 200 series Brockway.
It suddenly emerged from the forest after decades of hibernation. This particular stretch of real estate outside of Watertown, NY has been a hot spot of old Brockways over the years. Some of which I have never shared on this site. 😉
The DC line of trucks by Autocar has an impressive history and immediately brings to mind a heavy duty, no nonsense, severe service truck. The “relaunch” of a conventional styled tractor by Autocar was generally well received by the trucking community. It seems that the countless comments and suggestions over the years to offer something other than a cab forward truck did not fall on deaf ears. Almost as soon as the DC line was reborn as roll-off chassis people begin clamoring for a dump truck application. Autocar is still listening. Enter the latest version of the DC-64D, the Badass.
Great to see the Autocar bowtie back on a conventional style hood!

Dodge trucks were very well represented at the 2021 ATHS National show. Of all the truck marques present Dodge trucks were probably in the top three for total numbers.
In fact there was an entire row of at least a dozen Dodge trucks that I never photographed or filmed. That’s how common they were!
Tom S. has been a long time visitor and contributor to this site. He often sends in great photos of heavy duty plows. This time around he shares with a us a selection of photos from the ATHS National show in Harrisonburg, VA. I have to say that many of the trucks that caught his eye caught mine as well. Great minds think alike.
