Nice Petes

I almost forgot about this nice looking Pete that I spotted behind a hotel in the late spring. Really long wheelbase on this rig with pleny of custom storage boxes. The tracked auger outback makes the complete photo package.

Peterbilt with drop trailer

Just yesterday I stopped by the local Mack dealer for my weekly check on things and found this PeterbiltĀ with custom paint touches waiting in the service line. Clifton Recycling is the proud owner. Maybe they will feel differently when the get the bill. šŸ˜‰

The Lost IHC’s

Usually on trucks left to the weeds the glass doesn’t last too long. Nature or vandals often take their toll. In this case of this oldĀ Cargostar the windshield has held up rather well and is fairly clean. So clean in fact that the entire cab has transformed into a greenhouse of sorts. If you look closely you’ll notice the entire cab is full of the same weeds growing along the outside of the truck. There even is a dead layer of the leafy greens along the dashĀ suggesting a yearly cycle has taken place at least once. BioDome II.

International Cargostar Garbage Truck

Sitting on the same property is this crew cab S-Series International. Body wise this truck seems sold. No visible rust along the doors or rocker panels which happen to be the hot spots on this model. It could be saved.

Unique Rides

This video begins with a burst of modern power effortlessly hauling the classic iron of an International R-Series tractor and Kenworth Bullnose. The lingering aftertaste of a such a trio is expertly melded with that of a Kenworth W-900 with aluminum flatbed trailer which provides a long escape before darting to that of an International DCO, aka, the Emeryville. Next, the rarely used Pirsch open cab fire truck arrives to delight all the visual senses. The film quickly transitions back to a White 4000 recalling the glory days of a great American manufacturer. The nostalgia is not over used however as we move back the flavors of a Mack LJ running white wall tires. The robust nature of this video also includes wholly exotic vehicles usually not found in the U.S. in the form of a Mercedes Benz Unimog. More Macks, Peterbilts, Internationals and even a grader balance this concoction before brazenly introducing a Corbit racing a Consolidated Freightways to the finish of your visual feast.

Above was my interpretation of my typical video descriptions converted into snobbish wine styled review. šŸ™‚

Engine 1 and Rescue 1

I’ve come across Engine 1 and Rescue 1 of the Syracuse Fire Department in the past week or two. The first time the callĀ involved a motor vehicle accident with no injuries.

Syracuse Fire Department

Some fluids spilled. Some people stood around looking dazed. A simple call at the end of the day.

Syracuse Fire Department Engine 1

Later in the week Engine 1 (KME) and Mini 1 were spotted outside the Galleries. I believe they were performing some sort of inspection, possibly related to the Hotel Syracuse renovation seen in the background.

Thus concludes the yearly coverage of fire trucks on Daily Diesel Dose. šŸ˜‰

Same Old Song

This is it, the final batch of photos from the ATHS national convention. Thank you for your patience. All aboard the cool bus.

This 1946 White WA-22 is rare machine nowadays. Normally you can see this truck at the Iowa 80 Trucking Museum. If you’re looking for one of your own there is a 1958 T-9000Ā in my neck of the woods that has a similar shape and look as this vintage beauty.

White Motor Company

Superliners are just a great looking truck no matter what condition they come in.

Mack Superliner

The final gallery.

While we may be done with the photos we are are a long way off from finishing all the video. Below, a White WC-22 ready mix truck.

And more random shots from the first day of the show.

Concrete Pumping in Utica, NY

MarkĀ sent me these intense concrete pumping photos the other day from the North South Arterial reconstruction project in Utica, NY.

Concrete Pumping

Three separate pumpers were on hand making this one of the largest concrete projects to take place in Utica in a very long time.

IMG_20150716_162703_893 (1024x551)

This massive job is part of a 65 million dollar reconstruction of 1960’s era interstate that had limited exits, dangerous turns and provided little access to the surrounding area. State and local officals believe this project will help aid the continued resurgence of the Utica neighborhood known as the West End.

Thanks for sharing Mark!

Autocar Mondays – The Fixer

When other trucks get stuck send an Autocar. Joe has been stalking this 1974 DC9966 for a number of years now and was finally able to claim his prize. Owned by Clayton Block this truck is called out when the modern front discharge mixers become stuck in the mud.

1974 Autocar DC9964 6x6

On looks alone this truck passes with flying colors but just wait, it gets better. Under the hood you will find a Detroit 6-71N (238HP) connected to an air shift Spicer 16 speed mated to a 4 speed main and 4 speed auxiliary. If you can’t find the gears you need with this truck you shouldn’t be trying to do whatever it is your doing.

1974 Autocar DC9964

Super heavy SUDD rears rated at 52000 lbs reside in the rear and are just waiting for that next big job.

1974 Autocar DC9964 Interior

Inside the cab we find a dash that has escaped the decades relatively cut free. Even the steering wheel is clear of breaks. Take noteĀ of the 16 speed air shift. One stick for all those gears. Fun! This truck was originally sold by a former White/Autocar dealer by the name of Hall and Fuhs of Mountainside, NJ in the spring of 1974. That dealer still exist to this day but now only sells Izusu commercial trucks.

The fate of this fine old truck is questionable. Joe tell us that in recent years it has not been much more than a yard dog and currently occupies a parking spot reserved for retired trucks. Will it soon pass away like the other great Clayton trucks of the past?

Casa Readimix Concrete

I go to the city and find nothing but traffic and insanely priced tolls. Ryan goes to the city and finds first class access to concrete trucks. What am I doing wrong?

Casa Kenworth

As part of his ready mixĀ revival tour Ryan stopped by Casa Readimix of the Bronx. As it goes in the big city trucks were just parked all over the place just begging to be photographed.

I hope I’m not sounding bitter šŸ˜‰

2015 CNY ATHS Truck Show

I’ve attended the CNY ATHS chapter show every year for the past ten years. It was an impressive streak but one that came to and end this past weekend when I found myself in the Garden State for a number of days. Thankfully my dad was still around to grab a few photos and videos of the festivities. Over the years we’ve seen a lot of coverage from this event on Daily Diesel Dose with many of the trucks being repeats from the prior shows. There’s nothing wrong with that butĀ seeing new trucks is always exciting. This Brockway plow truck is a perfect example.

Brockway Snow Plow

A very interesting truck for sure and a great survivor. Exact model is unknown but based on that grill and front sheet metal this has to be early to mid 50’s at the most. The cab is throwing me off for some reason, it seems to be a newer style compared to the rest of the truck? If you know, let me know. Below is video of it arriving to the show. Hope you like Neil Diamond.

Everyone loves a good barn find. This 1936 International C30 was found in Lincoln Nebraska. You can still see faint markings for Meadow Gold Dairy on the doors and stake bed.

International C30 Truck

A nice clip video of the events.

Below a gallery with a few more shots of the Brockway plow, another ’76 Brockway 761, a few more shots of the International and a nice “mini” 1977 Peterbilt 359 pickup. I think my dad did a pretty good job with the coverage don’t you?

More photos can be found here. Thanks Andy.
