2014 ATHS Hudson Mohawk – Mack Trucks

I thought this was a neat photo highlighting what the old dump truck on the right could become with a little elbow grease and plenty of that green paper. If your a pessimist this photo shows you what could happen to the truck truck after years of use and abuse. Either way, this old Mack dumper was one of my favorites trucks of the show. The back of the cab was missing but not because of rust. I surmise it was the entrance to sleeper at one point. This must have been a sharp looking machine back in the day.

Old Mack Trucks

I liked the look of this old B-Model too. Just the right amount of repairs done to keep it moving under its own power. Oh yeah, it has an air starter. What a beautiful sound, just like a baby taking its first breath. Click here to see some rolling shots.

B-Model Mack

Here is a rear end that you can stare at and not get busted by your wife. It belongs to a 1948 Mack LM and we’ve seen it before but I never tire of it. Large. Loud. In charge.

Mack LM

The gallery below contains even more bulldogs. By no means is this complete coverage of all the Macks the made the journey to Ballston Spa. Maybe, MAYBE, I have shown you half of them. I have some videos coming that will help fill in the blanks so hang tight! Simply to many trucks too take in and photograph. That my friends is the sign of a wonderful truck show.

*Update* John tells us the rusty Mack dump truck was once owned by Breakstone Foods and used as a yard tractor which helps to explain the large entrance at the rear of the cab. Thanks John!

2014 ATHS Hudson Mohawk Classic Truck Show

Some might say that I am milking the coverage of the ATHS Hudson Mohawk show. I choose to believe that I am savoring the event. Why rush through the photos and videos? Let them wash over you like warm bath water and relax.

Our Canadian neighbors sure do have a lot of nice Freightliners running around. Check out this one from Procter’s Cartage. Just as nice as the one from the Northern Empire State show.

Freightliner FLD

Kenworth anyone?

Kenworth W900

I love when people go through the effort of dragging specialty equipment to the show. Check out this Walter airport crash truck. The painted over door seals read Republic Airport of Long Island.

Walter Airport Fire Truck

Plenty of other cool trucks in the two page gallery below. The show this year had a great balance of rigs with just about something for everyone. Tomorrow I’ll finish up photo coverage with a selection of all the Mack trucks that made up the show field. *Spoiler Alert* There are tons!

Brockway Trucks – 2014 ATHS Hudson Mohawk

The ATHS Hudson Mohawk classic truck show always has a strong showing of Brockways and 2014 saw a continuation of the trend.

Brockway Trucks

Brand new to the show this year was this 762 model owned by Clarence Ritchie. When I say new I really mean new. Clarence only returned home with this truck the evening before the show. Powered by a Detroit 12V71 this truck can move. The Richeyville VFD was sad to see this truck leave the fleet but they can rest easy knowing the 762 couldn’t have found a better owner.

Video of the new ride and many others!

The gallery below also includes a few more Brockways including an ex Coppola 758.

More coverage to come!

Mack R-600

Grizzled. That’s how I like my trucks. Not so much my steaks. Take a look at this Mack R-600. It has character that new trucks can only dream of reaching. Rust, fading paint, mismatched tires, leaking exhaust. It’s everything a survivor truck should be and then some. The roof mounted A/C unit is the cherry on top. It arrived to the show on trailer pulled by a very nice Mack DM. Keeping it the family.

This old dog appears to have some life left in it.

Below is the video of the truck warming up, unloading, and a short walk around while on the show field. A 1948 Mack LM makes an appearance midway through the video. There is no way you can miss this truck. Saying it’s loud is an understatement.

Autocar Mondays – 2014 ATHS Hudson Mohawk

This past weekend saw the coming and going of the 25th annual ATHS Hudson Mohawk classic truck show in Ballston Spa, NY. What a show it was. Hundreds of trucks attended over the two day event from all over the northeast. I’ll have plenty of photos and videos over the rest of the week but until then let’s start with some Autocars.

Nothing says Autocar more than a long, butterfly steel hood. Do you remember this truck from my coverage of the 2012 ATHS national meet? If not, click here. Video action of this fine machine is included for free!

Autocar DC Truck

Also seen at the show was this 1938 Autocar from the Tackaberry Collection. I love the look of the big tires, low roof, and short frame on this truck. An exceptional Autocar in every way.

1938 Autocar

In the gallery below you will a few shots of the C&R Trucking Autocar that caused many to drool uncontrollably last year. For past coverage click here.

Enjoy the video of the 1938 A-Car, it’s a true classic.

Random Cranes

I was driving home from work last week when I noticed these cranes basking in the fading summer sun. They looked so nice I got off the interstate and stopped by to grab a few photos.

Well maintained and near perfectly clean Link Belts of Raulli Iron Works. The older Link Belt reminds me very much of the Lorain crane auctioned off by Solvay Iron Works little less than a year ago. I’m sure you remember that lumbering behemoth. If not, click here.

Andy also shared with us a few photos of another Link Belt driving piles at a local auto mall.

Ford Louisville Trucks

You may have noticed that I like to group photos of similar trucks together. Today the grouping happens to be based around the Ford L-Series line of trucks also known as Louisvilles. I’ve recently came across three different models from this long and very popular line of trucks. To start, this well kept L9000.

Ford L9000 Truck

Moving back in time and condition here is an L8000 that is still sporting auction style numbers on the grill. Notice the blue oval is upside, the international sign of distress.

Ford L8000 dump truck

We’ll wrap things up with this missing grill Louisville. I know it’s a Louisville because it says so on the door in chunky block letters. Stylish.

Ferma Demolition

Today we check back with the demolition work on the former Downtown Plaza in Sacramento, California thanks to Ryan. Seeing the Cat 5110b from last week I knew this was a large machine even before the addition of four boom pieces. After reviewing this latest shot I realized that I did not have a true comprehension of what a massive piece of iron the 5110b happens to be. I would love to see the trucks that hauled this machine to the site.

Cat 5110 Excavator

Lots of huge machines working on this job in rather close proximity. Check out this Cat 365CL loading this dump truck. One bucket and you’re just about full.

Give yourself a break and browse through all the cool photos below. Great job Ryan.

Western Star 5700XE

Last week I issued a bounty for photos of the new Western Star 5700XE in a “natural” environment. I was hoping to grab some shots of this new rig outside of the usual press photos that you can find all over the web. Andrew answered the call very quickly and really capitalized on the natural element in his photos.

Western Star 5700XE

Here we see the 5700XE as it passes through some scenic territory on the way to the press event in Nevada. These photos are exclusive to Daily Diesel Dose by the way.

Western Star 5700XE

Andrew has declined to collect his bounty due to his connections with Western Star so there are plenty of opportunities left to grab your prize. If you see the new 5700XE on the road, a dealer lot, the factory line, or any other real location Email Me! T-Shirts, Stickers, Mouse Pads and other gizmos are ready for the taking!

Other Active Bounties: The Cat CT681

Thanks again Andrew! For more information on the 5700XE click here.

Autocar Mondays – The Last Autocar?

The City of Syracuse, NY used to run many, many heavy duty Autocars. They still have one in the form of this AWD Wrecker and years ago I found the remains of one hiding in the weeds. All other trucks of this once vast fleet have seemly disappeared. Their Detroit Diesel screams left only to memory. No doubt they returned to the earth in the form of a giant pile of salt corroded rust. Such was the fate I had slated for the truck below as it has been sitting on dirt mound near the entrance to the DPW garage for some time now. I figured it was done for, left to rot until eventually pushed onto the auction lot. To my pleasant surprise it turned up at a local repair shop a few days ago. It may have been towed but I prefer to believe it drove in under its own power.

Blue painted wheels give a clue to a fleet color that has been left by the wayside. At one  time you would have found a yellow cab with blue hood to go along with those wheels. Now the trucks come in either solid white or yellow. Better than purple I suppose. Either way, you are looking at the second to last Autocar in the fleet. Historic!

Would you like to help Autocar Mondays stay a regular occurrence? Email Me any photos or videos that you have!
