Still Working – Ford L9000 Cement Truck

More old Fords on display today courtesy of Vitale & Robinson Concrete and their “vintage” L9000. I’m not sure about your part of the world by the rear discharge mixer is quickly becoming a thing of the past. Personally I like this style of truck as I find the more modern front discharge style trucks to be boring. You can’t tell one manufacturer from the next! Of course I don’t drive one of these rigs each working day so maybe I should reserve judgement.

More action from Utica, NY with an impressive collection of dump trucks from Dave T. A near mint Ford LTL9000 dump truck is the star of the collection if you ask me.

Welcome to the Daily Diesel Dose B-Roll

Today a new part of Daily Diesel Dose goes live. The B-Roll! As you may guess I take many photos for this website. Some I use. Some I do not. The reason why a photo would not be used is complex and varied but more often than not I just couldn’t figure out how to build a daily post around it. In the past any unused material would eventually end up in my personal collection. But now through the miracle of modern technology I can share them all with you.

You may have noticed a new link below the Daily Diesel Dose banner titled B-Roll. Simply click this link to visit the page containing the once upon a time rejects. Right now there are 143 photos in the collection which represent the past five months of site activity. Considering that this site has been around for over two years there is much more to come. Don’t be fooled, the pictures in this gallery may not have played a staring roll but there are some gems to be found.

The photos you will find in the gallery are mostly raw. They have not been cropped, edited or watermarked. As time allows I may tinker with a few but until then enjoy the unrefined goodness!

Autocar Mondays – The Old and The Older

This week for Autocar Truck Mondays we return to one of the original Autocars to be featured on this site. Regular visitors may remember this truck from posts back in 2011 and 2012. Hopefully you’re not bored with it yet. The most recent visit by this Construcktor is enhanced by some video footage which is a first for this truck on this site. Also included is some footage of the later model Autocar ACL posted last week on the storm sewer/sanitary sewer separation job in Armory Square.

This truck is in really great shape and I think it gets better each time I see it. All the sheet metal appears straight and rust free. A great job by the owner has been done to keep this truck in near perfect condition.

National Grid Truck Bingo

I have something of a game when it comes to spotting National Grid trucks on the road. While most of the fleet is your average run of the mill Freightliner bucket truck there are few specialized vehicles in the mix. I always keep my eyes peeled for that “odd ball” unit in the quest to fill my bingo board. The truck below isn’t a new catch for me but that Altec cable spooler on the back is so I guess this is a 50/50 catch. As a matter of fact this Freightliner first hit DDD when I spotted it hauling a John Deere backhoe on a tag trailer.

A second truck that didn’t help complete my board but was cool none the less is this Freightliner M2 in action. Interesting bend in that arm.

Lost and Found – Diamond Reo and Mack

A Mack and Diamond Reo in the same photo? Talk about a power couple. The two trucks belong hang out at Action Topsoil in Minoa, NY. I haven’t seen the Diamond Reo on the road in a few years so I don’t believe it is in active use anymore. Same story with the Mack. Believe it or not there was another Reo hiding else where on the property but it was too obscured by weeds for a decent photo.

While on I’m the topic of trucks in the weeds what about this ex Schneider National International? Looks like someone was paying attention to the GPS and not the road. This truck also resides at Action Topsoil.

And for my local visitors this truck might be a familiar sight from years ago, a Niagara Mohawk Ford dump truck. I remember when they were a dime a dozen.

At the Dealer – Garbage and Plow Trucks

I was digging through my photos the other day to see if there were any worthy trucks I had passed over during the flurry of activity from the past few months. Turns out there were more than a few.

The two International WorkStars seen below were waiting on the dealer lot back in April for a chance to hit the city streets of Auburn, NY.

Fast forward a few weeks to arrive at a different dealer across town to find this nicely appointed Western Star for the Town Of Manlius. The T of M has a substantial plow fleet consisting mostly of International Trucks. Could this Western Star be a sign of things to come? I would hate to see the PayStars become a thing of the past! Three years ago (or more) the town had an open house and I was able to grab shots of nearly everything they had. You can view them by clicking here. I have never seen a Manlius truck that was not in perfect condition from top to bottom. They do a nice job with chrome accents too.
